Mistral Security Inc. – Blast Containment Receptacles - Providing Public Safety

Sep 22 2016

The recent events in NJ and NYC in which IEDs were placed in trash bins proves once again how Blast Resistant Trash Cans have become extremely important for public safety in today's world. Considering how easily an explosive device can be hidden inside a trash receptacle, a terrorist attack using an ordinary trash can to conceal a device is an extremely serious threat since the receptacle can become part of the attack, by spreading fragmentation around. Blast Containment Receptacles (BCRs) are designed to protect the public from the harmful effects of an explosion.

Mistral Security Inc. (MSI), a pioneer in explosive detection, identification, blast mitigation and containment, designs and manufactures 90% of the world's blast-mitigating trash cans.
Currently, MSI’s Blast Containment Receptacles (BCR) provide protection at hundreds of airports, train stations, bus stops, government facilities, critical infrastructure and street corners throughout the world. With more than 20 years of experience, MSI has earned a reputation as a world leader in blast mitigation. Our blast containment products are an established blast mitigating / protection tool within today's marketplace.

MSI’s Blast Containment Receptacles are the only trash receptacles that are both designated and certified by the US Department of Homeland Security SAFETY ACT and manufactured and tested in accordance with the new ASTM Standards E2740-12 and E2639-12 which were sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security to provide for the functional design and method of testing blast resistant trash receptacles.

The BCRs combine high strength inner and outer steel shells with a patented inner compressive layer to provide security, protection and safety to the surrounding public. The compressive layer is designed to absorb the major blast energy and resist fragments. The outer shell contains any remaining lateral blast energy and fragmentation. Residual blast energy is vented upwards away from the public, keeping the receptacle un-penetrated. Since kinetic energy from a blast is directed upward; the BCR provides true protection to the public - 360° around the trash can.

MSI’s BCR’s combine safety and practicality with its new optional dual liners/lids for easier recycling capabilities, and rain covers to keep precipitation from filling up cans left outdoors.

Many DHS grants are available for municipalities in order to purchase the Blast Containment Receptacles. The BCRs are part of both the AEL and SEL Number: 14EX-00-BCAN
